Seasons Greetings and Happy New Year 2013!
Family Mini Golf Arizona
As the reality of applying and receiving the Canada Pension Plan benefits and waiters asking if we want the Seniors Discount begins to set in, we want to stay in touch with all the Important People (U KNOW WHO U R!!).
May 20th was our 34th wedding Anniversary and we were lucky to have Richard and Alec home in Medicine Hat to celebrate with us. We took a drive out to Head of the Hills and “poked” around the property. Then drove through Elkwater. It was such fun to sharing our visit to Our OLD Stomping Grounds as a family.
On September 6th Mom and Dad had their 65th Anniversary. We were pleased to have Mom’s brother Jim and his wife Audrey join Russell, Richard and us to celebrate this amazing milestone.
We are now luckily, suffering here in Mesa, AZ. Noreen is well known in this community as the Roller Derby Queen, as she Zooms(?) around the Park. I continue to hobble after her on my sore ankle ( I do get it repaired next spring in Saskatoon)
Heir apparent, Richard, is working two jobs in Lethbridge and is now saving Money?!?! With some $$ he will, hopefully, be able to look at some options for further schooling or other work opportunities.
Second in line, Alec, is presently working in Northern BC and flies out every two weeks. He will be off work from December 12th to the New Year. He has plans to go to Tulum, Mexico to attend a music festival and scuba drive. When he mentioned he wanted to “hook-up” with some random people and maybe drive to some Mayan ruins, Noreen and I thought…. YIKES – driving around Mexico with some stoned out, hung-over festival survivors?!? So I volunteered as an Old Dad/ Body Guard/ Driver. We will return to Mesa on Christmas Eve.
The 3 of us will have Christmas here in Mesa while Richard, Uncle Russell, Nana and Papa celebrate in Canada. Alec leaves on December 27th to go snowboarding with Richard for a few days.
We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Super 2013….. Happy New Year!

Fantasy Flight to the North Pole
Elves and Rudolph the Police Dog
Don the Elf Entertaining the Children before their Flight to the North Pole2012
There are lots of special events this year and these pictures may need some explanation. We volunteered to help with United Airlines Fantasy Flight. This is a Special flight to the North Pole when United flies approximately 165 five and six year olds around Phoenix. They use an aircraft prior to the regular daily flights. The children are chosen because they are orphans, children of incarcerated parent, or financially disadvantaged, etc. There was a need for a couple of elves and they couldn’t find anyone (particularly a MAN who was willing to wear tights and dress as an ELF!). Of course, given my propensity to like musicals and wear disguises, I was their man?!? Noreen whipped up the costumes and we got up at 4am to arrive at the airport by 5am. We greeted the children as they arrived at the terminal and played and visited with them while they got boarding passes, went through security and to the gate for the 6:30 departure. The aircraft circled above Phoenix for about 25 minutes then landed and taxied to a decorated hanger, “The North Pole”. After they came down the aircraft steps to the tarmac they were welcomed by Santa, Mrs Santa, Rudolph and a “Real ELF”. Just before they walked through the archway into the North Pole we greeted them and told them how we had hurried home so we would be there when they arrived. Because we had asked if they would remember us, when we met at check-in time, most of the children smiled and ran into our outstretched arms as we welcomed them to their destination. It was actually lots of fun and the kids were so excited. I spent my short breaks hanging out with the uniformed marines, the police and the firefighters as I thought ALL of US uniformed types should be together. I did notice they kept moving away from me and were kind of unfriendly. Turns out the United Airlines organizers liked this year’s elves and invited us to join them again next December.
